Summary

Late sixteenth century house, formerly joined with No.8. Originally built for Thomas Bingley, Mayor of Poole. Divided and altered mid eighteenth century, rear service wing added early nineteenth century. Rendered coursed squared rubble and timber-framed, render now removed, large rubble left-hand stack with seventeenth century brick extension with panelled sides, and a tiled roof.

Full Description

Late sixteenth century house, originally built as a single dwelling with No.8. Divided and altered mid eighteenth century, rear service wing added early nineteenth century. Rendered coursed squared rubble and timber-framed, render now removed, large rubble left-hand stack with seventeenth century brick extension with panelled sides, and a tiled roof. (1) The chimney structure and part of the south west wall of this house was exposed during works within 4 Market Street. This wall was constructed of Purbeck limestone ashlar. One block has the initials ARTG carved in an archaic script. (2)
