Full Description
A round barrow crowning the brow of a hill on the wild heath near Wareham, suggested by RCHM to be on Worgret Heath in the locality of other barrows (SY 98 NW 2 3 4 5) was excavated by Pennie about 1830, and later demolished for material to repair an adjoining road. Within it at different levels were twenty-four urns of cruder workmanship and material than the urns from the Deverill barrow, some containing cremations. One was ornamented with a pattern of rings or circles; another which was covered by an unhewn flat stone, bore a cross partly raised and partly incised upon the bottom. One urn survives in Dorset County Museum. (1-3)
