Summary

One of nine round barrows that makes up the Southover Heath Group. Bowl barrow that has been much distubed by tracks and now appears as an oval mound 46 feet in diameter and 4½ feet high. The barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010.

Full Description

Five tree or fern-covered round barrows on Southover Heath with no traces of ditch and mainly free from mutilation. 'E' - A vague mound, probably a bowl barrow, approx; 11.0m diameter and 0.5m high, but much ploughed. <1> 'E' (14) SY 78049295. Bowl barrow, 46ft diameter and 41/2ft high has been much damaged by tracks and now appears as an oval mound. Grinsell refers to this barrow as 15 paces diameter x 6 ins high "almost levelled since 1938". <2> <4> "SY 779929 Group of four round barrows on Sothover Heath Scheduled". <5> 'E' SY 78059295, ploughed down; diameter approximately 16.0m., height 0.2m. None of the barrows C - E has a visible ditch. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <6> The barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010 <7>. It is sub-circular in shape and measures 22 m in diameter. This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project
