Full Description
In the seventeenth century Trent Barrow was described by Thomas Gerard in his Description of Somersett as ‘a little fort of earth made by man’s hands’. The artificial nature of the feature resulted, according to J Fowler in his ‘Sherborne behind the Seen’, from excavations for a marlpit. Thgis suggestion is confirmed by George Beaver, rector of Trent (1770 – 1801) who wrote that the pit had been waterlogged for many years.
