Summary

A small ditch, aligned roughly WNW-ESE, was found during a watching brief at 49 Blandford Road, Hamworthy. It contained no dating evidence, but is likely to be of Roman date.

Full Description

A small ditch (ditch 119), oriented roughly WNW-ESE, was found during a watching brief carried out by Terrain Archaeology to the rear of 49 Blandford Road, Hamworthy, in 2004. The ditch was about 0.75 m wide and 0.55 m deep and was filled with yellowish brown clayey sand. No dating evidence was recovered, but this ditch was on the same alignment as one found in the adjacent property of 45 Blandford Road, which contained 2nd-3rd century pottery.
