Full Description

A large pit or well was recorded during excavations by Wessex Archaeology on the former James Brothers site, Blandford Road, Hamworthy in 2008-9. It was about two metres in diameter and was over one metre deep. Excavation ceased when the water table was reached. It contained mainly Late Iron Age material, but there were Roman finds in the lowest excavated deposit. It was cut by a ditch containing Late Iron Age/Roman occupation debris.
