A 19th century or early modern groyne is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s in the intertidal zone to the south of Southbourne Overcliff Drive and Clifton Road. The groyne is visible as a line of posts, supporting timbers along its length, broadening at its southern end. It has a total length of 41 m. (1) The site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (2) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
