Full Description
The area of Bournemouth Pier demolished during the Second World War as an anti-invasion measure is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s. The photographs show that the structures on the pier have been removed and a section measuring approximately 45 m in length has beeen demolished. (1) The section of the pier was demolished by the Army Demolition Team and the pier head was reconstructed in 1950 (see National Monument Record 458172). The most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project shows the pier as reconstructed in the post war period. (2) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
