Full Description
Late post medieval or early modern garden features, consisting of paths, tree avenues and planting beds are visible as earthworks and stuctures on aerial photographs of 1951 on Furzey Island. A network of paths and planting areas covers the centre of the island. A path marked by an avenue of trees extends from the central area to the west. An eye-shaped garden feature, probably for decorative planting, is located in the south western part of the central area. (1) The features are not marked on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map (2) and have now been replaced by oil wells and their related industrial buildings. This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
