Full Description
Through fieldwalking and test pits a large assemblage of prehistoric lithic, and some ceramic, artefacts were recovered. The 28 test pits were spaced at 50m intervals with a 1m area in the north-west corner of each pit, dug by hand to a depth of approximetely 0.3-0.4m. From the fieldwalking a total of 251 archaeological finds were recovered. This includes 179 struck flint, 35 retouched flakes, 2 arrow heads, 2 knives/blades, 12 cores and 21 scrapers. From the test pits a total of 36 finds were recorded. This amounts to 33 struck flint, 1 retouched flake, 1 knife/blade and 1 scraper. The character of the artefact material favours an Early Bronze Age date.
