A post medieval or early modern gravel pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947 in Harley Wood in the centre of Brownsea Island. They pit measures 54 m by 20 m. (1) The site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (2) The pit is located adjacent to a gravel pit marked on the 1st edition OS map (see 6 019 155 and (3)) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
