Monument record MDO2873 - Bronze Age settlement at Warmwell Quarry, West Knighton

Summary
Archaeological survey and excavation in 1994 in advance of quarrying revealed debris of Bronze Age date, post-holes and other features, some thought to be hearths or cremation pyres. Interpreted as an area of settlement or possibly funerary and ritual activity.

Full Description
A group of pits of various sizes (MDO20782) are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs at this location. They are probably the sites of post medieval gravel or sand pits but may have some relationship with the Bronze Age finds. {1-2}
