Full Description
The remains of a possible late post medieval or early modern groyne are visible as a structure on aerial photographs of 1969 on the eastern bank of Mudeford Spit to the north of Hengistbury Head. The possible groyne is visible as a linear structure measuring 25 m in length. It appears similar to surviving groyne structures, but is lying perpendicular to them along the beach. (1) The groyne is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (2) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
