Monument record MDO28980 - Prehistoric or later enclosure, trackways or drainage ditches, Middlebere Farm, Arne
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
An enclosure and an associated group of trackways or drainage features are visible as cropmarked banks and ditches on aerial photographs of the fields to the south-east of Middlebere Farm, located adjacent to the banks of Wych Lake. The enclosure and its associated linear features are of uncertain date and function. Given their close proximity to a possible henge monument (MDO28974), it is possible they could have a prehistoric origin. Alternatively they may be associated with a post medieval saltern recorded to be situated in this area on Treswell's Map of 1586 (MWX3134).

Full Description
An enclosure, approximately 102m x 93.7m, and an associated group of trackways or drainage features are visible as cropmarked banks and ditches on aerial photographs of the fields to the south-east of Middlebere Farm, located adjacent to the banks of Wych Lake (1). These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). They are still partially visible on the most recent comprehensive imagery available to the project (2).
