Summary
A large double-ditched circular enclosure is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs to the west of Wytch Farm. It lies within the site of Wytch Fir Pound, which is shown as a rectilinear fir plantation enclosure on the First Edition OS Map. It is probable that this circular enclosure predates Wytch Fir Pound and may be the remains of a medieval or post medieval animal pound enclosure. This site has since been destroyed by the construction of an oil gathering station at Wytch Farm Oil Field in the 1980's.

Full Description
A large circular enclosure, approximately 137.3m in diameter, is visible as earthwork banks and ditches on aerial photographs to the west of Wytch Farm (1). The site consists of a double-ditched enclosure bank. Gaps present in the southern part of the enclosure may be the sites of entrance ways. It lies within the site of Wytch Fir Pound, which is shown as a rectilinear fir plantation enclosure on the First Edition OS Map (2). It is probable that this circular enclosure predates Wytch Fir Pound and it is considered likely that this feature may be the remains of a medieval or post medieval animal pound enclosure. This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It not visible on the most recent comprehensive imagery available to the project (2), having since been destroyed by the construction of an oil gathering station at Wytch Farm Oil Field in the 1980's.
