Full Description
A Second World War practice trench is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s to the east of Knowl Hill, Studland. The trench is in zig-zag form, extending from west to east for a distance of approximately 160 m. (1-2) It may have been associated with other military activity in the area. An area of trackways run to the north and south of the trench (see MDO29033); a possible military site is located immediately to the south and an area used for bomb testing is located to the east (see MDO29035-6). This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
