A 19th century or early modern groyne is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s in the intertidal zone to the east of Shore Road, Swanage. The groyne extends to the north east for a distance of 41 m. (1-2) The groyne is in a different location to the those plotted on the modern OS map. This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
