Monument record MDO29594 - Modern quarry spoil, Turlin Moor, Lytchett Minster

A mound of possible modern quarry spoil is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the north of Turlin Moor, Lytchett Minster.

A mound of possible modern quarry spoil is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the north of Turlin Moor, Lytchett Minster (1). The possible spoil heap is generally sub-circular and is being accessed from Border Road to the north west. It measures approximately 100m in diameter but is still clearly in use at the time that the photograph was taken. It is surrounded by a series of banks and ditches that appear to form some kind of perimeter or catchment. The banks and sitches enclose an almost square are measuring approximately 175m (east to west) by 150m (north to south). The site is visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project (2). This site was digitally plotted during the South west Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
