A possible Second World War searchlight base is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1949 at the western edge of Tout Quarries, Portland. The site consists of a circular platform with a central rectangular structure, possibly the searchlight housing. (1) The site is still visible as a cleared space on aerial imagery of 2009. (2) A number of buildings, which may be military in origin, are located within Tout Quarries around the site and may be associated with the possible searchlight base (see MDO29713). This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
