Full Description

A Second World War military camp is visible on 1940's aerial photographs (1-4) and Lidar imagery (5), located just to the north-west of Camp Road, Chickerell. The camp included ancillary buildings and structures, roads and slit trenches. Cropmarks of former tented encampments were also visible. A heavy anti aircraft battery (MDO23287) was located just to the east of this site and is likely to have been associated with it. These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). Some components of this site are still visible as structures, foundations and earthworks on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project.
