A group of small circular hollows are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of Lower Hyde Heath taken in 1947 (1-2). It is considered possible these could be military foxholes associated with Second World War activities in this area. These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. They are not visible on the most recent aerial images available to the project, this area now being under plantation.
