Summary
There were formerly three or four large wells on Enmore Green, which supplied Shaftesbury with water from the medieval period onwards. This continued until the nineteenth century when the wells were filled up and cartage of water from Enmore Green was discontinued shortly after 1844. The precise location of these wells is uncertain.

Full Description
There were formerly three or four large wells on Enmore Green, which supplied Shaftesbury with water from the medieval period onwards. Many people derived their living from carrying water. This continued until the nineteenth century when the wells were filled up and cartage of water from Enmore Green was discontinued shortly after 1844. The precise location of these wells is uncertain, but there were many wells in Enmore Green. (1)
