Summary

A series of low banks and ditches are visible as low earthworks on aerial photographs and Lidar imagery of heathland to the west of Binnegar Plain. They are located just to the south of a late prehistoric battery bank (MDO7709) and it is possible they may be associated with it in some way. Alternatively they could be related to historic activities in this area. They have almost been completely destroyed by modern quarrying.

Full Description

(SY 87538779) Series of low banks with slight ditches on outside. Appear to be ancient. Max. height 1'6" - 2'0". (1) NW - SE ridges, average height 0.25 metres, width 0.3 metres and 1.2 metres apart. They cross a low part of Battery Bank. They do not appear to be antiquities, and, but for their distance apart, could be plough ridges. Centred at SY 87528782. (2) Any archaeological feature/features that may have existed in this area, has now been obliterated by tank movement. (3) A series of low banks and ditches are visible as low earthworks on aerial photographs <4-6> and Lidar imagery <7> of heathland to the west of Binnegar Plain. They are located just to the south of a late prehistoric battery bank (MDO7709) and it is possible they may be associated with it in some way. Alternatively they could be related to historic activities in this area. These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. They have almost been completely destroyed by modern quarrying.
