A post medieval extractive pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s to the north west of Tolpuddle. The pit is located on Portsdown Chalk Formation and measures 240 m by 140 m. (1) The area has now been built over by a modern road. The features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
