A post medieval extractive pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947 to the north of Ilsington Wood, to the south of Puddletown. The pit is located on Portsdown Chalk Formation and measures 20 by 16 m. (1) This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
