Monument record MDO30567 - Probable Second World War military site, Gore Heath, Wareham St Martin

Remains probably associated with Second World War military activities in this are are visible as structures and earthworks on aerial photographs of the northern part of Gore Heath, Wareham St Martin. A heavy anti-aircraft battery (MDO30549), operational between 1940-1944, is located just to the north, at Slepe Farm, and is considered likely to be contemporary with this site.

A heavy anti-aircraft battery (MDO30549), operational between 1940-1944, is located just to the north, at Slepe Farm, and is considered likely to be contemporary with this site. These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. They are not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial images avaialable to the project, this area now obscured by modern plantation. A Naval QF night decoy site is listed in Dobinson 1996 Vol3, 116 on Gore Heath and these features may be associated with this (2).
