A series of extractive pits and spoil heaps are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar along the steep south facing ridge to the north of Encombe House. They are probably associated with medieval or later sand and limestone extraction.

A series of extractive pits and spoil heaps are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar along the steep south facing ridge to the north of Encombe House (1-2). They are probably associated with medieval or later sand and limestone extraction and were digitally mapped as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
