Full Description

A series of post medieval extractive pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs along Ridgeway Hill, Steeple. (1-2). Two of the features are marked on the OS 1st edition map, one as 'Quarry' and one as 'Gravel Pit'; the underlying geology is chalk and sand. They are still visible as earthworks on the latest Google Earth imagery and were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck NMP.
