A series of hollows are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on the ridge to the south of Steeple. One is marked as a Quarry on the OS 1st edition maps. The features are considered to be post medieval extraction pits (1-2). They are still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery and were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck NMP.
