Monument record MDO31298 - Early medieval ditches at Simsay, Cerne Abbas
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Three large ditches of early medieval date were recorded and partly excavated by AC archaeology during archaeological evaluation of a proposed development site in 2004. A collection of well-preserved seeds and animal bone, including red deer bones, was recovered from one of the fillings of the ditch. The extent and layout of these features could not be established. The excavators felt that the ditches may be associated with Cerne Abbey situated to the north.
