Summary

A group of linear banks are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs, located along the western edge of Corfe Common, Corfe Castle. They are considered likely to be the remains of historic field boundaries, probably constructed in the post medieval period to define plots for livestock.

SY959812 and SY957814. Ditches and banks - undated. <1> Linear earthen banks with a ditch on one side indicate areas of minor enclosure in some areas of Corfe Common. They were constructed probably in the post-medieval period to define plots for livestock in some cases or small scale cultivation in others. <2-3> A group of linear banks are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs <4-5>, located along the western edge of Corfe Common, Corfe Castle. They are considered likely to be the remains of historic field boundaries, probably constructed in the post medieval period to define plots for livestock. These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck mapping project.
