Full Description

A small extractive pit or quarry is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on the south side of Povington Hill to the ESE of Lawford Sheard Gate. The underlying geology is Upper Greensand with adjacent chalk, it is either a post medieval chalk or sand pit. The site is not marked on the OS 1st Edition Map but is still visible on recent Google Earth imagery; it was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
