An extractive pit or quarry is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs to the south of Tyneham Great Wood (1-2). The underlying geology is limestone, it is therefore considered likely to be associated with post medieval limestone quarrying. The features are still visible as extant earthworks on recent Google Earth imagery; they were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
