Full Description

Round barrows on Shorn Hill. A bell, a double bowl and a bowl lie in a close-packed North-South straight line on top of a broad spur about 500 yds North of Bronkham Hill. 'C', Bowl (62988728) 50 yds North of 'B' (MDO3176). Diam about 50 ft. ht 5 ft. Disturbed and spread. <1> <3> 'C'. SY 62988729. Bowl barrow, diameter 18.5m., height 1.8m. No visible ditch. All the barrows are grass-covered. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <4> Site of a possible Bronze Age bowl barrow on Shorn Hill, one of a group of three barrows situated in this area (MDO3175-7), lying in a close-packed North-South straight line on top of a broad spur about 500 yds North of Bronkham Hill. Later field investigations record it as a bowl barrow, diameter 18.5m., height 1.8m. No visible ditch. <5> Also visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs {4-7}, measuring approximately 18.4 metres in diameter. This site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
