Two 'Old Chalk Pit's are marked at this location on the OS 1st Edition Map. They are part of a linear series of pits along a natural chalk scarp. They are considered to be post medieval and are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1945, 46 and 1970 (1-3). The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. They are still extant on the most recent Google Earth imagery, the southernmost pit having been partially plough-levelled and visible as a cropmark.
