An 'Old Quarry' is marked at this location on the OS 1st Edition map. It is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (1) and is one of a number of small pits in the vicinity. They are still partially visible on recent Google Earth imagery. The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
