A scattered group of six probable post medieval chalk pits are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs and low earthworks on lidar imagery to the north of Chaldon Herring. The pits are sub-oval in form and measure between visible over an area measuring 20 m by 31 m and 70 m by 50 m. They are visible over an area measuring approximately 820 m by 500 m. (1-2) Two of the pits are marked on the 1st edition OS map. (3) These features were digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
