Full Description
The place-name Ower Passage suggests a landing point for a ferry crossing. The place-name was first recorded on the OS 1st edn 1in map (1811) (1). Earlier sources suggest that this was the location of a quay serving the Isle of Purbeck and used for shipping stone and marble (1). A group of buildings is shown there on the tithe map (c 1840) (2) and OS 1st edn 25in map (1890) (3).
