Full Description
The place-name The Cellars on the coast near Southbourne Coast Road was shown on the OS 1st edn 25in map (1871) (1) and suggests the location of facilities associated with fishing, including stores for fish (cellars) and other buildings such as net stores (2). William Tucker (3) noted a fisherman's net spread to dry in this area in 1850. The farm to the N was formerly named Cellarfield or Cellars, possibly also referring to fishing facilities.
