Full Description

The 3rd edn OS 25in / 1:2500 map (1925) (1) shows a U-shaped banked enclosure and a separate linear scarp to the west at the southern end of Pergins Island. Earlier maps (2, 3) showed a small plantation on the same site, the bounds of which partly coincide with the mapped earthwork features. It is not clear whether these were relatively recent earthworks at the time of the OS 3rd edn or were simply mapped for the first time. The plantation may have formed part of a designed landscape associated with Upton House, located approximately 850m to the NW.
