Monument record MDO346 - Lime kiln near Caundle Wake, Bishops Caundle
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A lime kiln recorded as ‘old limekiln’ in the 1900-2 Ordnance Survey map but not marked in the 1927 and 2006 Ordnance Survey maps. It was visited by Laurence Keen in 1983 who found a well preserved lime kiln just north of Eldersfield House. It appears to be 19th century in date. This kiln pot is stone lined rather than the usual header bonded bricks. Peter Stanier visited the site in 1992-3 and found the kiln to be in poor condition with only some 46-59% remaining.
