Summary

A bowl barrow. In 1970 this monument was reported as being around 40 feet in diameter with a mound about one foot high. This barrow may be one of those investigated by antiquarian H White in 1811. A barrow mound, 12m across, is visible as a low earthwork on lidar imagery and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM.

Full Description

A bowl barrow, 13 paces diameter, 1 ft high. <2> A grass covered bowl barrow with no visible surrounding ditch. Diameter 14.0m. and height 0.4m. <3> Bowl Barrow (ST 86830082), on Charlton Down, 60 yards north of Combs Ditch (S0 80 SE 48); diam. 40ft ht 1ft. <4> ST 868008; ST 872008. Two round barrows on Charlton Down. Scheduled. (see ST 80 SE 21 for other scheduled barrow). <5> A barrow mound, 12m across, is visible as a low earthwork on lidar imagery <8> and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM. It is one of two adjacent mounds, the second is recorded separately in MDO45849.
