Summary

A bowl barrow. Traces of a trench can be seen across the top of the mound, and this may be one of three barrows on Charlton Down investigated by the antiquarian H White in 1811. In 1970 this monument was reported as being around 40 feet in diameter with a mound 4½ feet high, and surrounded by a ditch six feet across and 1½ feet deep.

Full Description

A bowl barrow with a surrounding ditch. No dimensions given. <2> A grass covered bowl barrow with a surrounding ditch, which on the South side is 2.0m. wide and 0.4m. deep. Diameter of the barrow is 14.0m; height 1.3m. The barrow shows signs of a north east-south west trench having been cut through the centre. <3> Bowl barrow (ST 87170083) on Charlton Down; top of mound disturbed by north-south trench; diam of mound 40ft, ht 4 1/2ft, ditch 6ft across and 1 1/2ft deep. <4> ST 868008; ST 872008. Two round barrows on Charlton Down. Scheduled (see ST 80 SE 20 for the other scheduled barrow). <5>
