Monument record MDO37340 - Enclosure near Manor Farm Dairy, Pimperne
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A complex of cropmarks situated around 300 metres SSE of Manor Farm Dairy is clearly visible on aerial photographs dated 2005. The marks form a sub-rectilinear arrangement of plough-levelled ditches and are interpreted as a possible enclosure, roughly rectangular in shape, and associated boundaries. (The record for this monument has been created with support from Wessex Water). The enclosure with associated ditches is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in 1984 and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project.

Full Description
A sub-rectilinear arrangement of plough-levelled ditches seen over an area measuring c85 metres by c40 metres, possibly forming a sub-rectangular enclosure with an open side to the south and associated boundaries to the east, clearly visible on aerial photographs dated 2005.
Several sinuous ditches noted just to the east, between this monument and an adjacent large bi-vallate Iron Age enclosure, may be related to this monument, but have not been mapped with it.
The enclosure is subsquare, 36m across, with associated ditches; it is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in 1984 [2] and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project.
