Full Description

An extensive area of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947-8 to the west of Batts Lane between Sansom's Cross and Pitcombe Farm (1-2). Its was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP. They are considered to be the remains of 19th century ploughing but a more recent origin is possible. The cultivation marks have been partially levelled by modern ploughing but some is still visible in 2000 and on the latest Google Earth imagery (3).
