Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A garage built 1950-51 by Jackson and Greenen for Bournemouth Corporation to house buses and trolley buses, with some offices. The consultant structural engineer was Alfred Goldstein. The roof is a thin shell of reinforced concrete in the form of nine cylindrical vaults with integral edge beams at the valleys. When built, this was the largest span formed by shell construction in Britain, and the first to be post-tensioned; it inspired many similar buildings.
