Summary

The site of a possible long barrow has previously been suggested to the west of Lowness Coppice, South Bowood (NMR SY49NW16). A mound, 35m long, was identified as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery to the west of Lowness Coppice, Netherbury. It is considered likely to be the site of the possible barrow however a natural origin for the feature is possible. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Full Description

SY 438 989. A possible long barrow ca. 100 feet long NE-SW by 40-50 feet wide has been discovered on AP's West of South Bowood. <1> The site of a possible long barrow has previously been suggested to the west of Lowness Coppice, South Bowood. A mound, 35m long, was identified as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery to the west of Lowness Coppice, Netherbury <2-3>. It is considered likely to be the site of the possible barrow however a natural origin for the feature is possible. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
