Full Description

A curving linear bank to the west of Laverstock Farm may be an historic field boundary visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s (1). The boundary follows a stream valley and the parish boundary line and its curving morphology may indicate a medieval origin, although a later date is possible. An extraction pit (MDO38538) to the west of the boundary may be a later feature cut up to the boundary edge. The boundary is cut by a still extant field boundary, which is also shown on the OS First Edition historic mapping. The boundary is still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (2). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
