Full Description

A series of historic extractive pits to the northeast of Pilsdon Barn are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1). These are likely to be post medieval in origin. The extractive pits occupy the top of a raised north facing spur of ground and the area of obvious extraction measures around 95m long by 40m wide, although the whole spur of ground may have seen some working. The extractive pits are still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (2). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
