Monument record MDO38615 - Possible historic field boundaries, Blackdown House, Broadwindsor
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Possible historic banked field boundaries to the northeast of Blackdown House are visible as faint earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s and on a Lidar survey of 2010. The broad nature of these lynchets and their slightly curvilinear form suggest a probable medieval origin, although a later date is also possible. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Full Description
Possible historic banked field boundaries to the northeast of Blackdown House are visible as faint earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s (1) and on a Lidar survey of 2010 (2). The lynchets lie within a larger curvilinear enclosure of probable medieval origin, possibly part of the relict medieval open field associated with Blackdown House. The broad nature of the lynchets and their slightly curvilinear form also suggests a probable medieval origin, although a later date is also possible. The site is no longer visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (3). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
